Brief:
1. Choose a non-profit organization that does not have a regular printed newsletter, or has one that could use the services of a graphic designer to improve it.

2. Using tabloid-sized sheets of paper (11 by 17 inches or 27.9 by 43.1 centimeters) and 2 colours plus the colour of the paper design 3 spreads, and front and back covers including a mailing panel that meets postal guidelines for the region covered by the newsletter.

After looking at numerous options, I decided to develop a regular printed newsletter for WarChild Canada, a non-profit that works in conflict zones to rehabilitate youth, with the hope of raising the organization's profile among my faculty and classmates. After contacting the organization's office to get permission to use their existing logo (since it's a nice, strong mark), I learned that they are moving towards uniting their Canadian, European, and American offices under the "WarChild" name without a geographic locator.

Brief:
Produce an academic-year calendar (9 months plus a cover). The design could be based on any theme, but must be typography-dominant and based on a single grid. All pages are 11 by 17 inches (27.9 by 43.1 centimeters).

I chose to make the calendar a showcase of my “go-to” typefaces at the time, providing a little of the background behind each typeface and something of the design of the typeface on each page. The cover is the result of a classmate's (erroneous) instructions on how to print a multi-page PDF from a multi-layer Illustrator file, tweaked slightly to bring out the pattern from the Fell Type's ornament set.

Typefaces: Didot, Fontin, Hoefler Text, Akzidenz Grotesk, Adobe Garamond Pro, Arno Pro, Univers, the Fell Types, ITC Stone Serif & Sans
