/ / Jan 27: three projects up. more to come in the next week or two.

Relief prints made during an integrated studio arts class (first experience with relief printing). Carved out of low-end plywood with hand chisels and a Dremel-style tool. Except Project 2, all printed on heavy Strathmore drawing paper.

Project One: single colour prints from a 4 by 6 inch block; exploring tone and gradation, learning how to carve (and not carve) out of plywood. I had fun playing with making the process as unpredictable as possible.

Project 2: group project, carved from a 4 by 8 foot block and printed with an industrial steamroller, printed on fabric sheets. The first print is on a white, sparkly felt. The second was on heavy cotton canvas. We chose to make a print for one of our graphic design professors, who has a strong interest in maps. He was amazed.

Group members: Angela Schmitz, Katherine Rohlfing
